YLC Co-Sponsors Bill to Extend Foster Care Benefits

April 15, 2015

Youth Law Center and the Alliance for Children Rights have co-sponsored SB 12, a bill now before the California Legislature which will  provide a support net to vulnerable former foster youth under the age of 21 who were excluded in prior legislative efforts to extend foster care to youth who require the assistance and protections of the child welfare system in a healthy transition to adulthood. SB 12 will ensure that foster youth who cross over to the juvenile justice system, who research shows have the most challenging experiences of all young adults who have exited foster care, retain access to the education, case management and housing resources through AB 12 that provide a critical support net for former foster youth.
