The California Department of Social Services has just named Rochelle Trochtenberg to be the new California Foster Care Ombudsman. The office is responsible for educating foster youth about their rights and how to report violations. It also investigates and resolves individual complaints. Rochelle is a former foster youth who grew up in California’s child welfare system and knows firsthand the problems associated with the system. She is the first former foster youth to hold this position. Rochelle was honored by the Youth Law Center with the 2010 Loren Warboys Unsung Hero award for her work. The San Jose Mercury News ran an article about the appointment.
