Part-time Law Clerks
The Youth Law Center hires law students to work part time, from eight to fifteen hours a week, during the school year. YLC also works with law students who are interested in externships, clinicals, and field placements. Students work closely with attorneys on pending federal civil rights litigation and juvenile justice and child welfare projects. The work includes:
legal research
writing memoranda
drafting pleadings
research on child welfare and juvenile justice issues
pending litigation and projects
administrative tasks

Summer Law Clerks
The Youth Law Center seeks law students to work full-time for ten weeks in San Francisco.
Responsibilities
Summer interns work closely with attorneys on pending federal and state civil rights litigation. Tasks include:
Legal research and writing
Drafting pleadings
Attending litigation strategy meetings
Observing local court proceedings
Research and writing on public policy aspects of child welfare and juvenile justice
Working on Youth Law Center publications
Qualifications
Applicants must have completed the first year of law school and should have excellent research and writing skills. Experience in child advocacy work may be helpful. The Youth Law Center hires volunteers and students who are recipients of public interest grants. Many YLC summer interns receive grants from a school or law firm to support their work here.
