Following are additional ways to make a gift to the Youth Law Center.

Donate Residual Funds from Cy Pres Awards

As a highly regarded public interest law firm that has been a national leader in creating better futures for children for more than four decades, the Youth Law Center is a worthy beneficiary for unclaimed funds from class action lawsuits, and has been approved as a cy pres recipient in past class action litigation.

If you are under the age of 701/2, you can designate YLC as the beneficiary of all or a percentage of your IRA and it will pass to us tax-free after your lifetime. Please contact your IRA administrator for a change-of-beneficiary form or download a form from your provider’s website.

Workplace Giving Campaigns

Legacy Gifts

Your support of the Youth Law Center reflects your commitment to advancing a vision where a child’s experience in foster care or juvenile justice is not a life sentence, but a brief moment on the path to a bright future. Leaving a gift to the Youth Law Center is a powerful way to ensure your commitment to this vision lives on beyond your lifetime.

The most common way to make a legacy gift is through leaving a gift in your will or trust to the Youth Law Center. You can donate a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your estate. Simply provide your attorney with our official name and tax identification number. Following is sample bequest intention language to the Youth Law Center:

“I give to the Youth Law Center, a state of California nonprofit corporation that is recognized as exempt from tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, with its principal offices at 832 Folsom Street, #700, San Francisco CA 94107, [all (or ____ percent) of my residuary estate] or [the sum of $_______ ] to be used for its general purposes.”

Tax Note: An estate tax charitable deduction may not be relevant for people whose estates are worth less than the federal estate tax exemption amount. The federal exemption for 2025 is $13,990,000 for individuals and $27,980,000 for a married couple. Estate tax imposed at the state level (currently in CT, DC, HI, IL, MA, MD, ME, MN, NY, OR, RI, VT, WA) may also be a consideration. You should consult your own qualified financial and legal advisors to learn how the laws apply in your particular circumstances.
