Supporting Postsecondary Access and Success for System-Involved Young People

The Youth Law Center works to improve postsecondary access and success for highly mobile young people by improving access to state and federal financial aid. We advocate for changes in the federal requirement for satisfactory academic progress, which serves as a barrier to financial aid and often leads to disengagement from postsecondary programs. We partner with advocates in California and Nevada to support federal changes while also leveraging any parallel opportunities for state reform related to financial aid access and general post-secondary success. In California, we specifically work to improve access to the Cal Grant, through identification of existing barriers for highly mobile youth, along with development of training and resources to address any access challenges.
