YLC and CDSS Host CDSS Director Webcast for Foster Parents

On August 28th, the Youth Law Center and California Department of Social Services co-hosted a webinar for California foster families on current important issues in providing excellent care to children. CDSS Director Will Lightbourne responded to questions presented from foster parents and youth in Sonoma, San Luis Obispo, Tuolomne, Alameda and Glenn counties. Issues covered included nomalizing the experience of children and youth in care through using the “prudent parent standard”, improving transitions for children, addressing confidentiality barriers that prevent foster parents from receiving needed information and developing partnerships between foster parents, birth parents and social workers. The webinar had participation from foster parents across California who are looking forward to another opportunity to engage with CDSS leadership.
