Jane G. v. Solano County was filed on behalf of a 17-year-old girl who was placed at Solano County Juvenile Hall while awaiting disposition of misdemeanor charges. The lawsuit challenged a variety of practices at the Juvenile Hall, including using isolation as punishment; forcing children to remain in their cells for days at a time with no access to showers, recreation, or exercise; failing to monitor children in isolation with trained medical staff; depriving children of access to counsel; and failing to provide children with adequate opportunities to contest their placement in isolation.

In early 1985, county officials signed a settlement agreement discontinuing the challenged policies.
