M.M.B. v. Bonneville County was filed by attorneys from the Youth Law Center and the National Center for Youth Law to end the incarceration of children in the Bonneville County jail. Attorneys found that children as young as twelve had been held in the jail. In December, 1986, the federal court entered an order prohibiting the incarceration of juveniles in the Bonneville County Jail. As a result of this order, nine other eastern Idaho counties voluntarily agreed to prohibit the incarceration of children in their jails. Also, Bonneville County officials agreed to open a regional juvenile center for its own use and that of five neighboring counties.
